Occasionally I do try out a recipe from a supermarket recipe card. This delicious Salmon steak came from a Waitrose card that I picked up in January. You can find the recipe on line
here.
I was intrigued as Marmite was a key ingredient, and I do love Marmite.
The first time I cooked this I found that there was not enough sauce, so the second time I doubled all the ingredients in the marinade. I served it on a bed of brown rice, with a layer of finely chopped leeks which I had cooked in a little butter and allowed to steam until soft.
I tried the sauce with white fish and prawns. I'm not sure it was great with the white fish, but will certainly be cooking prawns like this in the future.
If you are stocking up on salmon steaks for the freezer, this is a great store cupboard standby "Simple Supper."

| I doubled the ingredients to prepare three steaks |

I'm not keen on lots of chilli, my husband and son
both said it could have benefited from more! |

| I left the steaks for over 1/2 hour |

I LOVE marmite in cooking and this just shows how versatile it is too......those salmon steaks look delicious, and I LOVE the seasoning idea!

I love marmite so I'll certainly be trying this!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Marmite lover so I will try this.
ReplyDeleteI think Vegemite would work just as well and definitely plenty of chilli - lovely!
ReplyDeleteI don't really like fish very much, I don't mind something quite mild like haddock and I couldn't do without tuna for sandwiches, however, this recipe has made my mouth water! I think I'll have to try it with the salmon.
ReplyDeleteI have a jar of Marmite that could do with using up and will try this out as I love the way you serve it with sautéed leeks & brown rice. Just love this sort of dish and I can feel virtuous eating it too! x
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist clicking on the post when I saw the title. Marmite is one of those love or hate things isn't it? I was watching an episode of nigella lawson doign marmite pasta and she made it sound so mouthwatering I went out to get some to try (I've never had marmite at all growing up, just not a very asian thing at all) and unfortunately, don't really like it.. I'll give it one last try with your idea of it in a marinade! I like miso in marinades, so hopefully this will be alright!
